- Mathilde & Acquila
The frigid and unstoppable tides of the Baie were starting to pool sea water on the northwest area of the marshes. These pools could
eventually reclaim the ocean from fertile farmland that had been formed over decades by agonizing work of several previous generation.
So Acquila and the other men worked feverishly and without a break from dawn to dusk in the period between planting and harvest to
maintain the intricate system of dykes that protected their farmland and livelihoods.
The dykes themselves were made of interlaced logs harvested and dragged from the forest.
